What is LIVESTRONG?
In 2007, LIVESTRONG® partnered with the YMCA to create LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, a 12-week physical activity program designed to get cancer survivors back on their feet.
Researchers from Yale University and Dana Farber Cancer Institute conducted a research study on the impact of the program on participants’ cancer-related outcomes. They found that participants experienced significant increases in physical activity, overall quality of life and fitness performance as well as decreases in cancer-related fatigue.
With LIVESTRONG®, survivors participate in free or low-cost customized exercise regimens catered to their individual needs from certified fitness instructors. The instructors are trained in cancer survivorship, post-rehabilitation exercise and supportive cancer care. Survivors receive a membership at the YMCA for the duration of the program. The program is offered for free or low-cost at the discretion of the YMCA.

Process of Getting Livestrong Participants Access to the Y during their program.
Kelly SH is currently the person who works with Laura Peterson and the LIvestrong coaches to set up Y membership access during their program. She has access to Welld which is the program the Livestrong uses.
Once a Livestrong cohort has been formed at a branch, and the program is either about to start, or just started, the Livestrong coach is to follow these sets of instructions:
In order better assist YSC in setting up the Program Memberships for LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA participants and maintain the best HIPAA compliance, the following is the new procedure for membership processing.
- Kelly Stark Hernandez in the YSC will process all memberships. Kelly has access to see the LIVESTRONG®cohorts in Welld and can see who is enrolled in the program.
- When referrals come in, Laura P will add a Note to their file with their Personify ID if they are already a YMCA member.
- Enrollment is completed in Welld once the Initial Functional Assessment is entered. Please email kelly.stark@ymcasv.org when your program session starts so that she is aware of the need to process memberships. Assessments take place on 2nd day of session.
